Trade Release: World Environment Day – Autopia Tours Remove Single-Use Plastics

05 June 2018: Melbourne-based small group tour operator Autopia Tours (Part of the Get Lost Travel Group – GLT) has announced that from today, they will be discontinuing all single-use plastic items from daily operations and looking to reduce their plastic pollution dramatically.

Today, Autopia will discontinue distributing single-use ponchos to customers across its Victorian and New South Wales touring programs. Likewise, individual plastic-wrapped candies will be finished for more environmentally friendly substitutes.

As well as removing single-use plastics, Autopia will also provide their team with reusable coffee cups to reduce the number of non-biodegradable disposable takeaway cups currently being consumed.

GLT Group GM Kerry Tate said, “At GLT we believe that small things can have a massive impact. I’m incredibly proud of the team for making a stand in favour of our environment, and we fully encourage other tour operators to follow suit.”

The announcement, coinciding with World Environment Day and this year’s theme of ‘beating plastic pollution’, comes just a week after the first departure of the group’s “Trash Bags On Tour” beach clean-up program. The eco-initiative, headed by GLT staff, raised awareness of the effects of rubbish pollution on our coastal environments and collected more than 35kg of plastic waste from the iconic Great Ocean Road’s Memorial Arch alone.

The announcement extends Autopia’s commitment to the environment; it supports several local wildlife organisations, offsets 100% of all vehicle and transport carbon emissions, and provides its Williamstown North office and depot with solar-generated electricity.
